The Integral Business Epistemology
Epistemology (from Greek words “episteme”,
knowledge, science + “logos”, reasoning) is
“knowledge behind the knowledge”. It answers
the question: How do we acquire knowledge
about the integral business practice?
By utilizing the Balanced Scorecard concept and
applying to it the principles of second-order
cybernetics, epistemology of IBP investigates
integral business practice with awareness that
the practitioners are part of the system, aware
of self-referentiality, self-organizing, the
subject-object problem, etc.

The IBP Development Chart
Also known as the “IBP andragogical fit”, IBP
development chart describes IBP from the
perspective of a learning strategy focused on
adults. It consists of two dimensions: the deve-
lopment spectrum (from skills to foundation)
and the comparative areas (from secondary
education to IBP). Sample areas provide an
orientation examples for each of the two dime-
nsions.
The chart demonstrates how IBP compares to
other systems of human development.

The Integral Business Framework
On this page you will find the groundwork for not only the Integral Business Practice, but also for other Integral dimensions of
life. Framework consists of several models - ranging from epistemology of IBP (how do we know if a particular business practice
is “integral”), through andragogical fit (how does IBP compare to other human development systems, like university education,
MBA, soft-skills trainings etc.) all the way to detailed models of the Integral Operating System or Spiral Dynamics Integral.
The IBP Matrix
IBP Matrix is a practical application of the
Integral model that helps you to authentically
exercise all of your business aspects or dime-
nsions, as well as of your being-in-the-world.
Four of the core modules are based on Ken
Wilbers "body", "mind", "spirit" and "shadow"
division. The derived modules are overlayers,
business focused electives that extend the core.
IBP Matrix is modular, scalable and custo-
mizable. It is designed to fit the schedule of
any business person. Practices are chosen
individually in an effort to create a program
that is flexible and effective.

The Integral Map
The Integral Map was designed to demonstrate
how Cowan-Beck’s Spiral Dynamics model fits
with the Ken Wilber’s AQAL, Altitude and Levels
of Consciousness models.
In the process of convergence, all of these
frontier models of human development are
expanded to provide unsurpassed insight into
the integration of our own stages and lines of
development, states of consciousness, our
values, sources of our motivation and our
behavioral patterns.

Illustration of Spiral Dynamics
Spiral Dynamics is a theory of human deve-
lopment introduced by Don Beck and Chris
Cowan in 1996, based on the work of psy-
chology professor Clare W. Graves.
Spiral Dynamics has taken two directions in its
development. One is pursued by Cowan in
integrating Spiral Dynamics with NLP and other
models, and in developing corporate strategy
and practical applications. Other direction is
pursued by Beck in association with Ken Wilber
and other members of the Integral Institute.
This approach is called Spiral Dynamics Integral
and continues to be applied and further deve-
loped in organizational and societal contexts.

The Integral Theory Models
Integral Theory originates from the theoretical
psychology and philosophy of Ken Wilber, a
body of work that has synthesized Western and
non-Western understandings of consciousness
into an emerging field of scholarly research
focused on the complex interactions of onto-
logy, epistemology, and methodology.
Integral Theory has been applied in a variety of
different domains: art, ecology, economics, po-
litics, psychology, etc. Practical applications of
the theory have been developed in areas of
leadership, coaching, and organizational deve-
lopment by researchers worldwide.

Integral Life Practice Matrix*
ILP Matrix is a tool for organizing the many
practices handed down through the centuries -
along with those developed at the cutting edge
of psychology, consciousness studies, and other
leading fields for life in the 21st century. It has
been published in 2008 by Ken Wilber, Terry
Patten, Adam Leonard and Marco Morelli.
* IBP Matrix and ILP Matrix share a common
model for organizing the practices into core
modules and some of the auxiliary/derived
modules. However, they differ in the practices
they focus on. IBP is strongly business oriented
and rooted in a conservative systems theory.
ILP more readily explores the practices that
diverge from the academic mainstream.
